I write this, having just taken on the role of Chairman, so I have a lot to learn! I was really touched by the way I was made to feel welcome when I joined and I hope to be able to give something back. I play (fairly badly) as often as I can find people prepared to take me on! I see my role as trying to ensure that the Management Committee operates effectively for the benefit of the club. I am keen to hear any comments or thoughts (complimentary or otherwise) that members have.
Just an all round nice guy! Like the Secretary of any business my role is to look after many elements involved in running the Club. A predominantly administrative job I look after the day to day things like the members database, new members records, booking system, digital notice board/screen. I oversee the compliance and regs side of things, licenses, contracts, staffing. I currently sit on the coaching sub-committee. I also ride shotgun on the website. In my spare time I play for the men's Vets team!
I've been a member of the club for 27 years and I play for the Men's 4th team, Mixed 2nd team and Men's over 45 1st team. I am at the club a lot, probably too much! Working in facilities I look after the practicalities of organising events, contractors and supplies to the club and project managing any ongoing works. I also liaise with our grounds man who works 8 hours a week. In addition I also deal with playing in prospective members.
I have been a member of Magdalen for over 15 years and enjoy the many aspects of the club over the years. I have been on the committee for 7 years working previously as ladies captain and tournament director. Having established these key positions, I am now moving to facilities with priorities including safeguarding our members, tennis ball supplies and making sure the club is open for business. I also hope to provide continuity and stability as the club transitions to a new committee. I am excited to meet the challenge of a new role and will endeavour to make a difference.
I have been a member for 6 years and enjoy the friendships that I have made at the club. I trained as an actuary, worked as a fund manager for 20 years and now manage my property related businesses. I will work with the Committee to plan our finances carefully so as to avoid surprises and ensure the long term viability of the club. I am candid, value transparency, and like to keep things simple. One of my roles as Treasurer is to ensure we spend our money efficiently and sensibly to the benefit of all members. I dislike wasting money but also enjoy spending it! I am always open to questions or suggestions (including tennis tips). If you catch me at the bar, feel free to buy me a drink or just say hi!
I've been a member of MPLTC for four years and have definitely made more of an impact in the clubhouse than on court during that time. As Social Secretary my role will be to manage an event calendar that serves all members of the club as well as run the annual Summer and Christmas parties. Recruiting more members to help out at events and creating a knowledge hub and resources to guide members looking to put on events will be a key focus. I have just joined the committee to manage all the Communications & Marketing for the club. I've been a member of the court for nearly 8 years and also captain the 4th Men's team. I love playing tennis and will often be found playing many hours of social tennis on a Saturday/Sunday as well as having a few beers post match!
My role includes management and development of the website, looking after the bookings systems + booking courts for Social/Tournaments/Team Matches, managing the publication + promotion of events and any other external communications from the club to the members. I've been a member of the club for three and a half years and joined when I first moved to London. I've made some great friends and enjoy playing tennis both socially on the weekends and as part of the ladies 4th team. I first started to get involved with the Clay Classic in winter 2015 before taking over the organisation of the Clay Classic, which runs from January - March and the Club Championship which takes place over 2 weeks in July. In my role as Tournament Director, I run the 2 main tournaments but I oversee a calendar of events throughout the year, catering to the whole club membership. I've been a member of the club for 30 odd years, and I've been coaching for 23 years. I've headed up the men's teams at MPLTC for the last 25 years. As men's team captain I'm responsible for all 7 teams representing MPLTC in the Surrey leagues. This entails the selection and administration of the teams. I also run 2 Aegon men's teams which is the most prestigious club league format in the country. MPLTC now has one of the strongest set of men's teams in the Surrey league. For those looking to join the men's teams, take part in the weekend social sessions where you will be spotted and invited down to team practice.
I am new to the committee having joined November 2016. I have been a member of MPLTC for 6 years now, very involved in the men’s and mixed teams and running our club championships and Clay Classic. As Captain I think my role is as a representative for all members, helping members get what they are looking for from our fine club, and especially helping new members getting settled into the tennis and social life of the club.
I’ve been a member at this friendly club for just over a year now having taken a 10 year break from tennis! As ladies captain I am responsible for all the ladies weekend/weekday/vets team with the fabulous support and input of the team captains. Monday night is ladies team training and is always good fun and organised brilliantly by a small team of ladies. You will find me down the club most weekends and also there on Monday evenings, very keen to hear any comments or feedback!
